The Yamaha "Service Information" is for Yamaha tech`s (assuming you are a qualified mechanic already) but combined with the Clymer & OEM parts fiche gives us "novices" (snigger) an A to Z.

It's a good solution but I had planned to zinc all the bolts, nuts, etc. so putting everything in one bag was a must.steveloomis wrote:When I do a tear down, be it an engine or an entire bike, I put the bolts removed in a logical area in a plastic bag and marked. After 2, 3 phone calls every week during one month the zync guy finally sent me back my parts.
Below is the result :
The work worth every penny spent...
Later I found that there were yet more pieces to be zynced, so the zinc guy has a second lot to work on right now.

Some pics after powder coating of the frame
I did, however, one error ... I wanted to protect the threads in the frame and put everywhere the bolts to plug them – it worked as I wanted and the threads were protected. The problem was that when putting the bolts I screw some of them in too far. Later, once back from the powder coater, I had a problem getting them out. It took me about 3 hours to get all the bolts out

time for some update
The engine : when I’ve bought the bike it had a 3TB engine fitted. The 3TB stator and stator cover were removed and the 3AJ equivalents were put in place. On the photo below you can see that the 3AJ stator cover was paint in a different (shitty) color.
It is a common modification that I heard about before. The 3TB engine has around 40 kkm on the clock and rather good compression ratio of 1 to 9,5.
Initially I wanted to repaint and keep this engine until I saw another 3AJ engine for sale in France. It had 19kkm. I asked the guy the price, it was 350 € + 70 € for delivery so I told him that I was taking it. I paid and I waited for the delivery.
The day when it arrived to me was a surprise : for me, I was expecting only the engine. The guy didn’t bother to take off the carburetor, starter, etc. So this is what I’ve got :
The complete engine together with all its accessories – even the oil was still there.
When looking at it I saw it had some dust on it but generally it is in a very good nick and I think that 19kkm on the clock is very probable.
So for now, I will be fitting my new 3AJ engine to the bike. The 3TB engine will be there on the shelf waiting for another project…
