identification - part connected to carburettor

Post by her.XT » Sun May 13, 2018 7:42 am

hello!
I'm new here. Actually doing a carburator cleaning of a 3TB (year 1990, supermotard, 90'000 km) of a (girl)friend of mine.
On the right side of the bike, very close to the carburator, there is the part you will see on the picture on the link I send (hope the link works...).
This part is directly connected to the carburator by 2 hoses. There is no further connection between this part and anything else on the bike.
It has a plastic top and a steel body. There is 1 screw on the body. I removed it, but that didnt help, I still cannot take it appart.

The thing is: I dont know what this part is.

I looked at a lot of picture of XTs on the net, I didnt see anything similar to this part :bigeek:

I wonder, is it a fuel filter? what else could it be???

Since I'm cleaning the carb because the bike pops and struggles at full throttle, I thought I need to open this part too and clean it.
I'm afraid of trying to open the plastic top because of the age of the bike. I dont want the plastic to fall into pieces...

I really hope you guys can help.
Thanks

here the link to the pic:

YES!!!!!!
thats it!!!!!! you are amazing!
you are right, the bike has been imported from switzerland many years ago!

Since the bike is not going to high altitudes any more, can I just remove it?
Should I expect new adjustments on the carburator to compensate the missing part?

Since the bike has some issues, I think its not a bad thing to remove parts it does not really needs. Its just a potentially faulty device.

Thanks again

thanks a lot!

thinking of leaving it on the bike. But I might try to unplug it in case the bike does not run well at high revs.
